Club of Dayton

The University of Michigan Club of Dayton's district covers the greater Dayton area north to Sidney, west to Richmond, IN, east to Springfield, and south to Middletown.  The mission of the club is to provide fellowship to Michigan alumni in the area, with particular emphasis on serving members of the UM Alumni Association, and to provide scholarship opportunities for area students who plan to attend the university.  Please contact our club president, Sean Merrill at sdmerrill@yahoo.com if you would like more information on the club or if you would like to be placed on our mailing list.  Details on becoming a member of the Alumni Association are available at www.umalumni.com.  As a note, a portion of membership fees for the Alumni Association is provided to our local club to support annual events.

For those of you who use Facebook, we now have a page for the club under "University of Michigan Alumni Club Dayton, OH".  Please visit the site to stay updated on activities.

Wolverines and Wines Event

UM Alumni Club of Dayton

Saturday, February 25th @ 7pm

We are pleased to announce your local Michigan alumni club is hosting a wine tasting event on February 25th, and based on the success of last year's format, we are once again asking that you bring a bottle of one of your favorite wines to share for the tasting. This was a great conversation starter and the wines were very well received, so we hope to have some new wines that impress this year's participants. The club will provide appetizers to complement the wine selection. At the end of the night, we'll determine the favorite wine of the tasters and reward the purveyor of that wine. The event will begin at 7pm and will be hosted at 305 Ridgewood Avenue, Dayton, OH 45409 (near University of Dayton's campus). If you plan to attend, please RSVP Sean Merrill at sdmerrill@yahoo.com or 937-296-0431. RSVPs for the event are requested by February 20th.

We look forward to seeing you there and also hope that, as with last year's event, we have a strong attendance by those of you who have not attended our events in the past, and decide to make this your first! The club is always looking for new alums and new ideas on how to better serve our club members; interests, and the event is a great opportunity to share your thoughts with us while also enjoying some good food and wine with your Michigan family in the Dayton area.

If you are interested in supporting the club's scholarship fund, a tax deductible donation can be made by visiting http://alumni.umich.edu/get-active/giving-to-alumni-association/student-scholarships/available-scholarships, and clicking on the Dayton Club's link under the Ohio clubs. The full amount of any donation to the scholarship fund goes directly to student scholarship awards that help our local students make out-of-state tuition a little more affordable. Thank you for your support in preserving the club's ability to provide these awards on an annual basis.

Reminder for Alumni New to the Dayton Area:    For any members of the Alumni Association that are new to the area, please make sure that the Alumni Association is aware of your residence in the Dayton Club's area.  Funding provided to the Dayton Club by the Alumni Association is based on individual members' contact information. Several members have noted over the past year they have not been on our club's email list, which is due to the Alumni Association not being aware of their residence in the area.  This prevents us from notifying you of our events and from your membership fees supporting your local club.  To check/update your address information, visit alumni.umich.edu/about-the-alumni-association/contact-AAUM.

Alumni High School Recruiters

The University uses local alumni to recruit high school students to UM for regions outside SE Michigan. Dayton has been a strong area for developing future Wolverines, and the Alumni High School Recruiting Program needs your help! If you can volunteer some time every school year to visit a local high school to drop off materials, be available for prospective students to ask questions about admissions or the university in general, and occasionally participate in a college fair if you choose, then we need you! A list of prospective high schools that do not have recruiters for next year are listed below.

Dayton area high schools in need of recruiters (only HS that do not have a recruiter assigned already): Beavercreek HS, Miami Valley School (Dayton), Trotwood-Madison HS, and Wayne HS (Huber Heights). For more information, please contact Phyllis Taylor of the Alumni Association at 734-764-2316 or
phtaylor@umich.edu.
