February 20th Concert with the University of Michigan Men's Glee Club and the Friars a Great Success!

To all of you who attended, hosted, and/or donated to the Glee Club event, we want to reiterate our thanks.  The attendance was far beyond our expectations and the generosity shown before and during the event greatly enhanced the Club's student scholarship fund, which will enable us to continue to assist local students who decide to attend Michigan in the years to come.  Thank you again, and we hope the event also reinvigorated your interest in participating in our future events, some of which are noted below.

Dinner & Theatre:   The MIKADO at the Schuster                        15 May (Sat)

The Club is planning an event to attend an exciting performance of the MIKADO (or The Town of Titipu) by Gilbert and Sullivan on Saturday, May 15th at 8:00 pm.  This is a great opportunity for a night out with your fellow wolverines!  For those interested, we also invite you to catch dinner with us downtown Dayton prior to the performance (site to be determined).  Dinner attendence is not required.

Written at the height of Gilbert and Sullivan’s creative genius, The Mikado is set in the fictitious Japanese town of Titipu with charming and colorful characters like Nanki-Poo, Ko-Ko, Yum-Yum, Katisha and of course the Mikado.  In this unlikely setting the social milieu and mores of 19th century England are mocked in hilarious fashion. With familiar tunes like “Three Little Maids from School”, “A Wand’ring Minstrel” and so many more, The Mikado is a comic and satirical delight.

If you are interested in attending the performance and/or the dinner or would like more information, please contact Dave Grupe at 937.623.9882.

Annual Back to School Picnic                                             7 August (Sat)

We know it’s early, but as always we are already thinking about our annual summer picnic to send off local U of M students and provide an opportunity for fellow wolverines to commiserate prior to the start of the football season (we’ll still be undefeated at that point)!  The site of the picnic has not yet been determined, so stay tuned.

Alumni High School Recruiters

The University uses local alumni to recruit high school students to UM for regions outside SE Michigan. Dayton has been a strong area for developing future Wolverines, and the Alumni High School Recruiting Program needs your help! If you can volunteer some time every school year to visit a local high school to drop off materials, be available for prosepctive students to ask questions about admissions or the U in general, and occasionally participate in a college fair if you choose, then we need you! A list of prospective high schools that do not have recruiters for next year are listed below.

Dayton area high schools in need of recruiters (not all HS's listed- only those that have had applicants in the past two years and do not have a recruiter assigned already):

Alter HS (Kettering)

Kettering Fairmont HS

Miami Valley School (Dayton)

Please contact Ralph Smith (ralph.smith@zoomtown.com, Subject: "UM alumni recruiting") for more information and to sign up.
