News (updated: July 1, 2010)

The UM Club of Dayton is pleased to announce that Sean Merrill has taken over as our club president and his wife, Anne Merrill, is our newest board member.  Sean and Anne both graduated from UM in 2001 with Environmental Policy and Behavior BS degrees from the School of Natural Resources and Environment.  Sean hopes to build on the strong efforts of the club’s most recent president, BT Cesul. In the coming weeks, expect to see information on new ways to connect with the club and its members as well as a request for member feedback on events you would be interested in the club hosting.

In addition to our recent club changes we are extremely interested in finding alumni in the Dayton area who would consider becoming board members. For those of you who might be interested but are concerned about the time commitment, rest assured that being a board member will do little to disrupt your already busy lives! The board meets quarterly and we try to hold 5-10 events each year. Being a board member is a great opportunity to get to know local Wolverines both through the board and through our events, so if you would like to become a member or learn more about the board and its activities, please contact Sean at sdmerrill@yahoo.com.

Upcoming Events (updated: July 1, 2010)

An important notice on the Annual Club Picnic: Due to schedule conflicts, the Back to School Picnic date had to be changed.  The picnic will now be held on Sunday, August 15th from 1-3:30 pm at Victory Park in Beavercreek.  The park is located off of Dayton-Xenia Road in the same complex as Rotary Park, which is just east of the Dayton-Xenia Road and Beaver Valley Road intersection.  This annual event serves as a send off for local U of M students and provides an opportunity for fellow wolverines to commiserate prior to the start of the football season and relive stories of glory and happy days in Ann Arbor!   So that we have an idea of how many people will be attending, please RSVP by Saturday, August 7th to Sean at sdmerrill@yahoo.com.

Please notify us if you do not wish to be maintained on our mailing list

Alumni High School Recruiters

The University uses local alumni to recruit high school students to UM for regions outside SE Michigan. Dayton has been a strong area for developing future Wolverines, and the Alumni High School Recruiting Program needs your help! If you can volunteer some time every school year to visit a local high school to drop off materials, be available for prosepctive students to ask questions about admissions or the U in general, and occasionally participate in a college fair if you choose, then we need you! A list of prospective high schools that do not have recruiters for next year are listed below.

Dayton area high schools in need of recruiters (not all HS's listed- only those that have had applicants in the past two years and do not have a recruiter assigned already):

Alter HS (Kettering)

Kettering Fairmont HS

Miami Valley School (Dayton)

Please contact Sean Merrill (sdmerrill@yahoo.com, Subject: "UM alumni recruiting") for more information and to sign up.
