NEWS (updated: 15 Sep 2008)

CONGRATS TO SCHOLARHIP WINNERS FOR THE FRESHMAN CLASS OF 2008! THEY WERE OLIVIA CHITKARA, ALEX FINKE, AND NICHOLAS HAC!

1) Note that due to construction at Michigan Stadium, they are encouraging people to show
up early and to the gate closest to your seat location. Go to
http://www.mgoblue.com/facilities/article.aspx?id=141486 for information about gates,
construction, facilities, etc. They will open the gates to the stadium approx 2 hrs
before kickoff.

2) Thanks for all the fun at the tailgate party this year before the Um v Miami game! The chili soaked hotdogs ended up being a great hit. And most thankfully, we WON!

3) Football watching parties: This year we've secured the Chicago Room at Beef OBrady's
restaurant in Beavercreek (US-35 & Fairfield Rd, by the Lofino's grocery and Beaver
Valley Cinema) for two football game watching parties. We'll be meeting up for the UM v.
Michigan St game on October 25th (game time is anticipated to be 3:30pm) and for the Ohio
St game on Nov 22 (game time TBD). The Chicago Room is located in the front of the
restaurant by the windows. I'll send out a reminder closer to game time, but mark your
calendars!

4) A night to see the Michigan Hockey Team in Oxford! The Alumni club is putting together
a package to go see the Michigan men's hockey team in action against the Miami Redhawks
in Oxford on Friday night, Nov 21st, face-off is 7pm. For $40/person, we get a pre game
reception at the "Red Lounge" at Goggin Ice Arena w/ early entrance, standing room
tickets in the "Red Pit" section of the ice rink (right behind the goalie, on ice level,
against the glass), pre-game dinner (w/ non-alcoholic beverages), and access to
additional concessions and flat screen TVs.

- Glee Club Concert: We tried and tried, but couldn't get a date that fit the calendars
of the Glee Club and our concert venue. We have made arrangements for the Mens Glee Club
to come to Dayton for the 2010 tour schedule and as soon as we get a date reserved, we'll
let you know.

Alumni High School Recruiters

The University uses local alumni to recruit high school students to UM for regions outside SE Michigan. Dayton has been a strong area for developing future Wolverines, and the Alumni High School Recruiting Program needs your help! If you can volunteer some time every school year to visit a local high school to drop off materials, be available for prosepctive students to ask questions about admissions or the U in general, and occasionally participate in a college fair if you choose, then we need you! A list of prospective high schools that do not have recruiters for next year are listed below.

Dayton area high schools in need of recruiters (not all HS's listed- only those that have had applicants in the past two years and do not have a recruiter assigned already):

Alter HS (Kettering)

Kettering Fairmont HS

Miami Valley School (Dayton)

Oakwood HS

Please contact BT Cesul (btcesul@umich.edu, Subject: "UM alumni recruiting") for more information and to sign up. And remember, "Friends don't let friends (or their children) become Buckeyes / Spartans / Nittany Lions / Bearcats / Hoosiers / Boilermakers, etc."
